Rebecca Balding (1948–2022), actress in “Soap,” “Charmed”

Rebecca Balding was an actress known for her recurring roles as Carol David on “Soap” and Elise Rothman on “Charmed.”

Acting career

Balding got her start with guest roles on many TV shows, including “The Bionic Woman” and “Starsky & Hutch.” She had a lead role on the first three episodes of “Lou Grant,” as well as starring in the short-lived series “Makin’ It.” A notable breakthrough came for Balding when she was cast on “Soap” in the classic sitcom’s first season. Her character seduced Billy Crystal’s Jodie and had his child, leading to a custody battle. She continued to land guest roles on a wide variety of series, including “Cagney & Lacey, “Family Ties,” “Designing Women,” “Beverly Hills, 90210,” and “ER.” In 2002, she took on a recurring role on “Charmed” as a newspaper editor who was Alyssa Milano’s characters boss. Though Balding’s career was largely focused on TV roles, she appeared in movies including the horror films “The Silent Scream” and “The Boogens.”
