Robyn Bernard’s legacy
Born in Gladewater, Texas, performance was a part of Bernard’s family life. Her sister, Crystal, went on to star in the popular sitcom “Wings,” while Bernard sang gospel before making her screen debut (billed as Bernard Robin) in the 1981 French film, “Diva,” which also featured acclaimed operatic soprano Wilhelmenia Fernandez (1941–2024). Bernard would continue to work in French cinema on and off for the rest of her career.
She had guest spots on shows like “The Facts of Life,” the Vietnam drama “Tour of Duty,” and “Simon & Simon” before getting the part that made her known to wider audiences: Terry Brock (aka Terry O’Connor) on the daytime soap opera “General Hospital.” She was a mainstay on the series, appearing in 145 episodes between 1984 and 1990 when the show was wildly popular.
After leaving the series, Bernard did a few more European films under the name Bernard Robin, including “Maigret” and “Kings for a Day,” before leaving acting in 2002. In 1986, she also had a role in the French romance “Betty Blue,” a film nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
