Ron Cahute (1955–2023), folk musician with Burya

Ron Cahute was a Ukrainian-Canadian folk singer and accordionist who recorded with the band Burya. 

Ron Cahute’s legacy 

Cahute co-founded Burya in 1979 alongside other Ukrainian-Canadian musicians, playing polka and other Ukrainian folk music. He was the band’s lead singer and accordionist as well as a songwriter. Burya’s notable songs include “Fly Kozak.” Cahute also performed as a solo artist and recorded with other musicians, including Nana Mouskouri and Melissa Manchester. He wrote and performed music for children, and he also worked as a stand-up comedian.
