Cahute co-founded Burya in 1979 alongside other Ukrainian-Canadian musicians, playing polka and other Ukrainian folk music. He was the band’s lead singer and accordionist as well as a songwriter. Burya’s notable songs include “Fly Kozak.” Cahute also performed as a solo artist and recorded with other musicians, including Nana Mouskouri and Melissa Manchester. He wrote and performed music for children, and he also worked as a stand-up comedian.

Just heard about Ron Cahute’s passing and if you didn’t know him or his music now is the time. His memory will be eternally musical. He made me believe in being a musical comic as a Uke and somehow it’s bringing a whole whack of bellow shakes. Rest well Ron. Accordions forever.
