Rudy Moreno (1957–2024), “Godfather of Latino Comedy”

Rudy Moreno was an actor and comedian often called the “Godfather of Latino Comedy,” who as an actor appeared in “Arrested Development,” “The Shield,” “ER,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” and other TV shows. 

Rudy Moreno’s legacy 

Los Angeles-born Rudy Moreno was a regular on comedy stages, especially on the West Coast. The stand-up comedian developed a reputation as a mentor to others, helping up-and-coming comedians navigate the often-difficult comedy circuit. He was also a prominent Latino stand-up comic, leading to his nickname, the “Godfather of Latino Comedy.” 

Moreno most often appeared at the Ice House Comedy Club in Pasadena, California, where he was a regular. When not working the stage, Moreno was seen on screen, appearing in television shows like “Arrested Development,” “The Shield,” “ER,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Kingpin,” and a host of others. He also appeared in and helped write the Comedy Central series, “Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand Up Revolution,” starring Gabriel Iglesias.
