Sarah Danser’s legacy
Danser first appeared on “Naked and Afraid” in the show’s eighth season in 2017. In each episode of “Naked and Afraid,” a different pair of survivalists is challenged to make it through 21 days in the wilderness, with the catch that they are unclothed the entire time. In her first appearance, the premiere episode of Season Eight, Danser and her partner, Ben Johnson, were stranded at sea and had to make their way to an island. It was the first episode of the show to take that approach. When she returned in 2020 for an episode in Season 11, her survival location was the Mexican jungle.
“Naked and Afraid XL” focuses on a larger group of survivalists for a longer period, following the full group for an entire season. Danser was in two seasons of the spin-off, first in the all-star Season Four that brought together stars of the original series to survive in South Africa’s Selati River basin. She returned to “Naked and Afraid XL” in Season Seven, when she had to survive in Louisiana’s Atchafalaya Swamp. Over her four seasons on the two versions of the reality show, she became a fan favorite.
Born in Colorado, Danser made her home in Hawaii as an adult. She captained several boats there, and she was a scuba diver and breast cancer survivor.
