Alex Hawke and other work
Bell had a successful career in advertising before pivoting to become a best-selling author. He spent decades in advertising and worked on award-winning campaigns for products including Heinz ketchup and Miller Lite beer. After his retirement in 2000, he began writing novels, publishing his debut, “Hawke,” in 2003. It was the first of twelve novels in the Alex Hawke series, following the exploits of a billionaire British spy. Drawing comparisons to Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels, Bell’s Alex Hawke novels often landed on best-seller lists. Most recently in the series, he published “Sea Hawke” in 2021. Bell also wrote the Nick McIver series of time travel novels for young readers, as well as several short stories.
Bell on comparisons to James Bond
“Bond was a creature of the 20th century whereas Hawke is from the 21st century. He is thirty-three years old and the sixth richest person in England. Unlike Bond Alex is a living breathing man who falls in love, misses his child, gets hurt, sees the world as good vs. evil, and can be very emotional. —from a 2014 interview for Crimespree magazine
