Ted White (1925–2022), stuntman and Jason Voorhees actor

by Linnea Crowther

Ted White was a stuntman and actor who played Jason Voorhees in “Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.”

Acting and stunt work

White began his career as an actor, with his first role in the movie “Sands of Iwo Jima.” There, he met John Wayne (1907–1979), and he later became Wayne’s longtime stunt double. White also did stunts for actors including Clark Gable (1901–1960) and Fess Parker (1924–2010), and his stunt work can be seen in movies including “Planet of the Apes,” “Soylent Green,” and “Escape from New York.” White played Voorhees somewhat reluctantly, appearing in “Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter” when a large man was needed for the role and he needed the money. He chose not to be credited in the film, and when he was asked to return as Jason for later films, he declined. Other films in which White acted include “Tron,” “Starman,” “Against All Odds,” and “Silverado.”
