Lillian Ellison — better known as The Fabulous Moolah — led the world of women’s professional wrestling for decades.
Lillian Ellison (1923 – 2007) — better known as The Fabulous Moolah — led the world of women’s professional wrestling for decades. From her debut in 1949 to her record-breaking WWE Women’s Championship win in 1999 at age 76, she was at the top of her game. Not just a wrestler, she also trained female wrestlers, served as valet to male wrestlers, and acted as a wrestling promoter.
But, of course, it’s her wrestling we remember best — and today, on the fifth anniversary of her death Nov. 2, 2007, that’s what we’re spotlighting. We invite you to join us as we watch a few great Fabulous Moolah bouts.
In this 1978 match, Moolah takes down Vicki Williams in just over five minutes.
The Fabulous Moolah teams with Kitty Adams to take on Joyce Grable and Vivian St. John at Madison Square Garden in 1979.
Here Fabulous Moolah takes on newcomer Sheri Martel in 1982.
And here’s a match from 1999, the year in which The Fabulous Moolah became the oldest-ever WWE Women’s Champion.
Watch this WWE tribute to the legendary and absolutely fabulous Lillian Ellison.
