Chicago, Illinois, USA
Died November 5, 2020
Age 34
Brian Surratt loved music, especially Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, and Jody Watley. He liked pizza, fried shrimp, and anything that made him laugh.
Brian was born with Fragile X syndrome, a genetic disorder that causes intellectual disabilities. His mother Irma Chamberlain made sure he went to school, had the best therapy and treatment. Brian attended an adult day program three days a week, until the pandemic shut-down. When the facility reopened in August, Irma decided it was safer to keep Brian home.
Brian went out once, in early October, when a support worker took him to the barbershop and KFC to give Irma a break. He began showing symptoms of coronavirus about a week later. When his condition worsened, he was admitted to the hospital. No one was allowed to visit due to restrictions. His sister Char Surratt convinced the hospital to let Irma visit briefly. Brian died a few hours later.
