Obituary

Juan Reyes, born on January 27, 1940 and a resident of Sugar Grove, IL, passed away at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora on February 4, 2021 due to complications from the COVID-19 virus.

Born in Natalia, Texas, Juan was adopted and raised by his aunt and uncle, Ramona and Cleto Reyes, after his mother died when he was three years old. As a young man, he enjoyed and excelled in Golden Gloves amateur boxing competitions.

In the 1960s, Juan settled in Aurora and joined The Beacon-News where he served as the building superintendent for 39 years. He was often called “Mr. Beacon-News” because he had a vast number of employable skills and enjoyed pitching in wherever he could. He even translated the advertisements. Verdad!

“Such a wonderful man. I always enjoyed running into Juan in the hallways at the newspaper. Wonderful storyteller. Could have been a writer.”
