Marilyn Alston was a teacher in the Philadelphia public school system. Later in life, she earned her master’s degree in social work with a gerontology certificate.

Obituary

Marilyn Deloris Baker Alston, the oldest of four children, was born to Maude Evangeline Muldrow and Edward Marshall Baker on November 23, 1930…. Marilyn graduated high school on a Tuesday, in January of 1948, she then entered Fisk University on Saturday of the same week. After Fisk, there was Washington Square College, (now New York University), Cheyney State College (now University), Thomas Jefferson University, University of Pennsylvania and Temple University. Along the way Marilyn accumulated a Bachelor’s Degree, an equivalent Bachelor Degree in Education, a Masters of Social Work Degree and two certifications, one in Elementary Education and one in Geriatric Social Work. It was this rich, diversified educational experience that afforded Marilyn Alston a significant, noteworthy career as a teacher, psycho-educational specialist and geriatric social worker.
