Richard E. Barber Sr. was a senior deacon at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in New Jersey. He was a civil rights activist who participated in student protests in the 1960s and was a local leader with the NAACP.

Richard Earl Barber, Sr., son of the late John and Mamie Barber was born in Trenton, North Carolina on December 22, 1939… 

Under his dynamic leadership, New World National Bank was founded in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania (1975). New World National Bank was the only African American owned full-service commercial bank in Pennsylvania.
