Ruben Burks was a labor leader, the former secretary-treasurer of the UAW International Union. Working his way up in the union from his beginnings in the Flint local as an assembler in the Fisher Body plant, Burks became the organization’s first black secretary-treasurer. He was an advocate for working people who was also active with the Special Olympics, March of Dimes, Red Cross and Easter Seals.
