Gerald Henry Weghorst

1926 - 2016

WEGHORST, Gerald Henry Gerald Henry Weghorst of Dallas passed away Friday, April 1, 2016, at the age of 89. Born June 22, 1926, in Washington County, Texas to Frederick Weghorst and Martha Bohne Weghorst, Gerald was raised in Brenham, Texas along with his younger sister Mary. A life-long love of travel was kindled after serving in the Navy aboard the USS Boxer during World War II. Gerald visited 47 states and 42 countries that he shared through pictures and video. He played basketball at Blinn Junior College and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1949 with a degree in electrical engineering. Recruited by Dallas Power and Light, Gerald served successfully in many capacities, and retired after 38 years at DP&L. Gerald married the love of his life, Phyllis Brown, in 1957 in Dallas, and they had two sons, Hank and Allan. They were wonderful parents and grandparents, active in home, school, sports, and scouts. Gerald was Cubmaster and Scoutmaster of his sons' Boy Scout troop 636, and was awarded the Silver Beaver for service to youth by the National Council. Gerald is survived by son Hank (wife Linda) of Austin, and son Allan (wife Nanette) of Rockwall, and grandchildren Dustin (wife Tara), Alex, Aaron, Grace, Savannah, and Sophie; sister Mary Blackmon of Altus, OK, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gerald is preceded in death by his loving wife Phyllis, who passed away in 1991. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 9th, at 1:00PM, followed by funeral services at 2:00PM, both at Central Lutheran Church, 1000 Easton Road, Dallas, TX 75218.
