Ruth Fuentes Obituary
"She was a huge people-person, always smiling, always giggling," said her nephew Jonathan Santos. "All of her co-workers, and the passengers she interacted with, felt they were No. 1 in her life."
Ms. Fuentes, 49, was found dead of a gunshot wound on Friday in her home in Coral Gables, Fla.
Colleagues became alarmed when she did not report to work for two days, and police were sent to check on her, said the Miami-Dade Police Department. The death is classified as a homicide, and no arrest has been made.
Ms. Fuentes, formerly Ruth Esquilin, graduated from Passaic High School in 1980. She worked at Clark Air Base in the Philippines while her husband, from whom she was later divorced, was in the military, Santos said.
Ms. Fuentes joined American Airlines in 1986. She spent the first 20 years of her career at Philadelphia International Airport.
Working for the airline allowed Ms. Fuentes to make frequent trips to visit relatives in New Jersey and Puerto Rico, her nephew said.
She is survived by her parents, two brothers, two sisters and many nieces and nephews. Services will be private.

We worked together in PHL for years. I learned a lot from Ruth about how to be not only a good worker, and a good CSM, but also how to treat people. Such a fun, loving, and compassionate person with a truely good soul. I will think of her often and smile thinking about all the many ways she touched everyone. I am honored to call her my friend. Although I didn't know Ruth personally, the times I did work or commute on a flight she was working she made an impact in my life. She always had a smile and a caring attitude. When you saw Ruth at your gate, you knew the flight was going to get off on a positive start. She will be missed by many.
