I will never forget staying with Jan in Tauranga. She made everything feel like an adventure and always had time for me. I remember us playing games, her treating me to breakfast in bed, and taking me for walks along the beach. She showed me the old telescope and told me stories about the whales and the ocean. With a cheeky grin, she would say she was a witch, even bringing out her broomstick to prove it. She was full of fun and imagination, a wonderful storyteller, and those memories will stay with me always.

Although it has been many years since I´ve been in touch, it is with the greatest respect that I remember your mum Becs, for Jan was a true ally for me in tough times and if not for her words, advice and hugs, I would have given up.
The kindest of people who always had enough time and energy to help out on camps, sport competitions, fundraisers, and who we were all lucky enough to consider a mum away from home.
My thoughts are with you and your family and I thank you for lending Jan to us girls when we needed her.

Dear Hickson Family. Please accept my deepest sympathy and condolences on Jan´s passing. I enjoyed so much working with her at the acorn foundation. We had lots of old memories to share. Phil and Ted were the first friends we made in Taumaranui. We just love visiting the farm and seeing you all grow up. It was such a pleasure to catch up with Jan. Unfortunately, I won´t be able to be with you on Thursday, but my thoughts and love are with you. Norah Reid
