Today I opened an email from friend and fellow band member, Glenn Halls, where I read with great sorrow the passing of a great guy who I remember fondly as always having a smile on his face. I, too, played drums way back when and that is how I got to know Rex. My condolences to Rex's family and a hug for Wendy who I have not seen in many years.

Dear Diana and family.
I was so sorry to hear about your loss.
I met Rex when I started my first job after leaving school and started working at the then Auckland Drug Co in St John St.
Rex was a friend and mentor during those first years and while I did not see much of him outside of work, he was a great workmate and colleague.
We had a lot of fun getting the job done, especially on hectic days such as just prior to Christmas.
His sense of humour was infectious and I shall always remember our renditions of Ralph, Herbie and Fifi, the canine characters from a Cheech and Chong album.
Rex will always be remembered by me as someone who was dedicated to whatever he focused on and it was my very great pleasure to have known him.
Kindest regards
John Henderson

I met Rex in Hospital in a bed across from me, he always had a smile, and we had small chats, he always had visitors that helped cheer him up and made each day just that much better, I was so sorry to hear of his passing, my thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends.

Dearest Diana and family, wow you must be so proud. All the past and current students will always remember their school drummer.
Never without a smile on his face, and such a genuine and gentle man.
All our love, Bernard, Maree, Jamie, Dylan, Jessica and Zak Conayne xx

OH DI,
What can we say after being told of the passing of darling REX We can not find the words to explain the hurt and grief we feel with the passing of such a neat lovely person as REX. Di--Paul__ Nicole, Hold your heads high and feel so very very proud of your Husband and Father who was such an amazing human being in so many ways. the numerous friends, integrity and honesty with the list going on and on. Rex would never have had a single person in this world that would have spoken ill of him, lovely genuine man whom was dearly loved by all those that were fortunate and priveledged to have known him.
Di--Paul--Nicole, As Sue and myself are currently overseas, sadly we will be unable to attend the celebration of Rex's life, however, be assured that we both will be there in spirit and our thoughts be with you through-out. Life certainly is not fair as Rex was far too young to be taken at this stage of his life.
DI, as we have Craig and his wife Bernie here staying with us, plus Francine from London, who all adored Rex, plus having spent many social occasions in Rex's company, we all decided last night to celebrate Rex's passing by having "An Evening For Rex" This constituted, excellent food , (sorry no raw meat) Awesome Wine, and entertainment provided by-------none other than George Benson. We had numerous toast's to Rex but agreed the downside was not having our Darling Rex and Diana with us. How-ever Di we did give him an awe-some send off with us all relating various stories and incidents from the "Good Ole Days" which we can always look back on and bring a smile to our in Rex's absence.
Di we trust at least all your beautiful times that Rex and yourself have enjoyed through-out your lives, can be looked back on and relived in your mind to help ease the pain you will be going through.
Di, Sue and I love you dearly and ANYTHING we can do please do not hesitate to talk to us.
All the best Darling,
Sue, Colin Stevens
