Barry MCLEAN Obituary

McLEAN, Barry Fairbairn. QSM 2013 Gisborne Sportsman of the year 1968/1969, Life member Waikanae Surf Life Saving Club, Pharmacist. Passed away peacefully aged 91 on 5th October with family members by his side. Beloved husband for 65 years of Velma Mclean nee Banks. Beloved father of Janine, Barbara and Keith. Father in law of Duncan, Mark, Jo and Mary. Proud grandpop of seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Older brother of Roger Mclean, Margaret McGuinness and James McLean and brother in law of Peggy Mclean, Brother in Law of Lola and Malcolm Moir, Wendy and Stewart Marson, Currie and Barbara Banks. Loved Uncle to many nephews and nieces. Barry's family thank Management and staff in Kiri Te Kanawa Ryman's hospital wing for their beautiful care. A private farewell has been held as per his wishes. Correspondence to Vel McLean, 12 Gwyneth Place, Gisborne.

Vel, so sad and sorry to receive the notice of Barry's passing. He was in my eyes the epitome of a man and gentleman. I will miss him very much. He was a member of the 1954 NZ team that we were selected for and travelled to Australia. During that time we became quite close, but only really caught up at National surflifesaving events. How blessed we have been to have had Barry and Vel and your whanau as our neighbours in Onepoto Bay. We learnt strength, courage, compassion and patience through you both.
