My condolences to Deans family. I first meet Dean at Deverell & Gordon Joinery in the early 80's. He was a well respected tradesman and passed his knowledge onto a lot of apprentices. One special memory of Dean was that we worked together on the balustrades for the new Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington. The native timber was specially selected out of a South Island West Coast forest and were trees that had to be thinned to allow the new forest trees to mature. Dean and I dressed and moulded the timber with blades that we made for the spindle moulder and Dean carved the spiral newel cap extensions. His incredible special work will be on display there for a very long time.
In later years Dean donated his time at the Faraday Centre and we would catch up when he would come into the Colourplus paint shop around the corner. He would bring in parts off machinery he was working on restoring that needed a paint matched to the original machines colour. Even if there was no matching to be done he would always pop in for a chat and we would see if either had caught up with old work mates.
A true gentleman.
Rest in Peace Dean.

My condolences to Dean´s family. I worked with Dean at Stitsons in Napier in the 90s. After Dean finished working. full time I would often see him when my wife and I were out walking around the streets of Taradale. He always remembered me and we would often stop, albeit briefly, and exchange pleasantries about the weather or current affairs. He was a true gentleman and a great human being. Rest in Peace Dean.
