I was in Mr. Van Dolah's 1966-1967 class, and I have many good memories of my sixth grade year. I was a bit nervous about leaving 6th grade and going on to 7th grade at Hamilton, but Mr. Van Dolah told me that I was "a big fish in a little pond right now, but at Hamilton I would be a little fish in a big pond, but soon I would once again be a big fish in a little pond." His words of wisdom helped me through the next 3 years at that BIG school, and sure enough, by 9th grade I was feeling like that big fish! We'll miss you Mr. Van Dolah. Say hello to my dad ... he thought very highly of you, too.

I was a student of Mr. Van Dolah's in 1967-68. I remember upon returning to school after having surgery, Mr. Van Dolah carried my wheelchair up the stairs every day and I'll never forget it. He also designated May 12, the day of my return, "Stephanie Day" and every May 12 since then, I think of him with fondness. He was a wonderful teacher and a kind soul and I'll always remember him. My condolences to the Van Dolah family. God Bless.

Several years ago we needed a saddle, everyone we knew said go see Van. We did, and we bought a saddle, several in fact. We became quite good friends and loved to see Van at local auctions. Not only will he be missed by his family and students, but also his horse cronies.

Mr. Van Dolah was my 6th grade teacher at Gardiner Elementary during 72-73. He was a dedicated teacher of quick wit and a heart full of love for his students. I'll always remember his kind smile and eyes that somewhat twinkled. Thanks for making this world a better place by shaping and influencing the lives of many young people for the good. My condolances to his family.

Judy,
I'm so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. Of course, I never knew him, but these great stories from his former students are quite a tribute. I'm sure he was just a great a dad as he was as a teacher. May God bless you and your family in the days ahead, and may he rest in peace.

Rest Dwain, until you hear at dawn,
the low, clear reveille of God.

Thank you for your service to this nation.

Mr. Van Dolah made me the recess toy room boy and I thought I was a God. He would often remind me that it was a job that was important, but I should keep my head out of the clouds and treat everyone the same. Those ideals stuck with me through the years. I went to him and he held my hand when we heard of J.F.K.'s assassination. I have never forgotten him and never will. He will sit beside the Lord and council the children in Heaven, as he did on Earth. Good bye Mr. Van Dolah...

Mr.Van Dolah was my sixth grade teacher for the school years 1967-68. I was just thinking of him a few days ago. He was a wonderful, kind, and funny man who will be missed by many I am sure. The best memory I have is when he would hand out our report cards he would have a box of kleenex at his desk. He would call us up one at a time and hand us one for either the tears of joy or saddness (aka. fear of parents). And he would play his ukalayle to us. Rest in peace, Mr. Van Dolah.

To the Van Dolah family,

My thoughts and prayers go out to you. Some of the best times of my childhood were spent in your company. I was friends with Sheri, Mrs V was secretary at White where I attended grade school and in junior high Mr. V supervised our TARP dances at White. Kept us out of trouble and in line, while at the same time showing us how much fun we could have.

Peace be with all of you.

I attended Gardner Elementary in the 50 and 60's. Mr. Van Dolah was such a wonderful teacher. He cared for his students. I remember he invited myself and the Boyer boys to peddle our bikes out to his small farm on a Saturday to ride his horse's. What a fun day that was.
God bless you Mr. Van Dolah for not only in passing on your wisdom in teaching all those years, also thanks for the Love in your soul for children. See you on the other side one of these days.
