Jacob POULAIN Obituary

POULAIN, Jacob. Aged 73, died at his home in Flaxmere, Hastings on Monday, September 10, 2018. Survived by his wife Keriana, children Dominique, Wayne, Jacoby, Anneke and Stan. Loved Opa of all his mokopuna. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks for the love and care shown to them and Jacob, during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations to Flaxmere Age Concern or Cranford Hospice may be left at the service and would be appreciated. A service for Jacob will be held in the Flaxmere Age Concern Centre, 38 Bristol Crescent, Flaxmere on Wednesday, September 12 2018, at 11.00am, followed by interment at Waipawa Cemetery.

Dear Dad, It's been five years since you left us. Mum missed you so much, and now she's joined you.We learnt so much from you both as individuals, and you gave us the best start in life.You taught me how to be strong, fearless in some ways, ,how to be cheeky and laugh , your were gentle, and humble. I'm grateful for your love story with New Zealand and our mother.I loved your heritage and hearing your stories of world travels , your Oma & Opa and your mokopuna will dearly miss growing up with you as we has the privilege of having .If love could keep you both with us, you'd never leave.

Here is the English translation to Ada's message, thank you Ada for your message about Jacob.

Dear Keriana, sorry my English is not so good.
But I want to tell you that Jacob was a mischievous neighbor. If he and Martin were in the room with a few friends and I walked by, they would sing in unison Adaaaaaaaa. Sometimes that was annoying and I went through a different direction and sometimes I had to laugh about it. I met them again on facebook later and I liked that. I enjoyed his stories about his shed and the songs he sang.Great. It was a special man you had to love. I will never forget him.
Dear Jacob rest peacefully and to the family a lot of strength in this difficult time.

Lieve Keriana, sorry mijn engels is niet zo goed.
Maar ik wil wel even vertellen dat Jacob een ondeugende buurjongen was. Als hij en Martin met een paar vrienden in de kamer zaten en ik liep langs dan riepen zij in koor Adaaaaaaaa. Soms was dat vervelend en ging ik via een andere richting en soms moest ik er erg om lachen. Ik ben ze later op facebook weer tegengekomen en dat vond ik zo leuk. Ik heb genoten van zijn verhalen over zijn schuurtje en de liedjes die hij zong.Geweldig. Het was een bijzondere man waar je van moest houden. Ik zal hem nooit vergeten.
Lieve Jacob rust zacht en de familie heel veel sterkte in deze moeilijke tijd.

It was a beautiful service for Jacob, it all started at 5.30 am with a brilliant chorus of birds singing indeed the intensity of which I have never heard before. The sun shone brightly and the sky was blue it was neither hot nor cold we basked all day in its glowing warmth Only a few days before the whole country was reeling from storms. Sensing Jacob was getting ready to leave us soon, I whispered softly to him "Darling it's pouring outside there are storms all over the whole country, can you wait darling until the sun comes out again?" He was use to me putting petitions to him, and this was no different, it was our way, he did just that, the day was perfect! He was covered with adorning flowers and loving messages, they kept coming even after the burial. During his illness, many, many cards came from his friends in Holland,from his villages where he grew up. The funeral was relaxed the buzz from all his guests was "It was a beautiful funeral if only he could have seen it, he would have been proud!" I'm sure he did and I'm sure he was! Moe mai, moe mai, moe mai ra tku rangitira e! Sleep, sleep, sleep the long sleep my darling. Your loving wife/frau Keriana XXXX
