Have known Phil since I started at the MOW in 1984, I always found Phil to be a true gentleman and always keen to enjoy a good conversation especially around Rugby or Cricket, he was also keen to know what flag we were flying at home, he always reminded me to raise the New Zealand flag when the ABs were playing. He will be missed by all those that knew him. Raewyn and Jimmy Anderson

Hi Lesley- Gary and I would like to send you our sincere condolences over Phil's death earlier this week. We recall the wonderful times we had many years ago now playing cricket for Napier Marist. Phil was a good cricketer and good fun in our team. We had lots of humorous asides with him, both playing alongside him and outside the playing environment. He was such a lovely guy. We will miss his quiet and happy demeanour which we often encountered outside St Mary's after Sunday Mass. He always played the perfect forward- defensive shot! Lesley, we send you our love, greetings and sympathy at this sad time. Sean (Tauranga) and Gary (Wellington) Bevin

Dear Lesley
We are very sad that Philip has passed. We have known Philip since 1965 when Mike joined the MOW in Napier. Over the years our enduring friendship has bought us together many times in Papua New Guinea, Sydney and of course in Napier. Philip will be sadly missed by all that knew him. We regret that we cannot attend Philip's farewell due to a commitment in Wellington on Saturday and our thoughts are with you at this sad time.
With love from Mike & Linda Wong
