Paul Arends Obituary

Paul David Arends, born on May 19, 1946 in Ames, Iowa to the late Hope Arends and the late Armyle Arends, passed away at age 73 on August 22, 2019 in Durham, North Carolina. He was a graduate of Lakewood High School, University of Colorado, with a degree in Business, ranked in the top 1% in the nation on the LSAT before completing his law degree from University of Denver in 1974. Paul as the loving husband of Linda Arends for 50 years. He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Allen and Jessica Arends; brother, Mark Arends; and grandchildren, Scottie and Connor Allen. Paul and Linda met on a blind date in Denver, Colorado and were married in 1969 in Little Falls, New Jersey. Their daughters were born in Denver. He lived with his family in Atlanta from 1981 to 1995. For a period of time he ran his own real estate business and also served as an elder at St. Luke's Presbyterian Church in Dunwoody, Georgia. He and Linda moved to Vienna, Virginia in 1995 and lived there until Paul retired from the Internal Revenue Service as a lawyer in the Spring of 2009. While living in the metro D.C. area, Paul became an avid recumbent cyclist and editor of the National Recumbent magazine and enjoyed part-time work as an editor for well-known publishers including Random House and Putnam. Paul was fluent in German. His love for travel took him to Germany, Great Britain, Holland, France, Thailand and Japan; with his and Linda's favorite being Italy.
