Caryll CLAUSEN Obituary
Of Feilding. On 19 March 2024, peacefully at Ranfurly Manor, surrounded by family love, aged 92 years. Dearly loved wife of the late Eric. Loved mother and mother-in-law of Malcolm & Annette, Warwick & Kaye. Loved and respected Grandma of Amanda & Andy, Melissa, Shanon & Kate, Todd & Jess, Sarah, and Hamish. Loved Grandma to her 11 great-grandchildren. Special thanks to the staff at Ranfurly for their care shown to Caryll. A service for Caryll will be held at William Cotton & Sons Funeral Chapel, 29 Beattie Street, Feilding on Saturday, 23 March 2024, at 1pm. For those unable to attend, the service will be live streamed at www.williamcotton.co.nz/tributes

Michael and I were in Sydney and so were unable to attend Caryll's service, thanks to technology we watched the service live. Thankfully we visited Caryll the week before we went away. Caryll was a great support when mum, Melvie passed away and we had many conversations about their fun times and life together. Caryll was a very wise and caring friend and will be very much missed.

Please accept our sincere condolences. We are away in Auckland and will unfortunately miss Caryll's sevice. Caryll and my Dad Trevor were great friends, with Dad nominating Caryll at election time. Looking back, leading the transition from Borough and Counties to District Council as smoothly as she did was an incredible achievement of Caryll's. I enjoyed my relationship with her from my days at Feilding Promotion, and in fact Caryll agreed to the seed funding for us to get established in 1993. Over my time as a Councillor I received many phone calls from Caryll. "Hello Michael, Caryll Clausen speaking. I am absolutely (the next word was the one I waited for with trepidation. It would either be disgusted or delighted). Caryll was a straight shooter who told you what she thought. Luckily I ended up with more 'delighteds' than 'disgusteds,' but I did have one or two!
Caryll continued to take a keen interest in local politics and elections, and would often vocalise what others were too shy to say at meet the candidate events.
Caryll was a great Mayor, a strong person who cared deeply about others, and a wonderful personality.
