David SILICH Obituary

SILICH David Nicholas Whangarei Boys' High School Old Boy, friend and generous benefactor of the school passed away on February 12th 2018. David's commitment to the school and it's individual students touched the hearts and minds of many. David supported students through their education at WBHS and well beyond, always taking a keen interest in the progress of the young people he showed great belief in. He will be much missed by our entire school community, past and present. Our love and thoughts are with his wife Corina and his children Nicholas and Alex at this very sad time. I suspect no one, if any, will read this as i'm fairly late to the party however I do feel the need to add to this thread in a brief manner.

I met David in 2006 when I was a young adult and he supported me in many ways during my art school years. His generosity, advice and guidance will not be forgotten.

I know there are a few of us who benefited from being around David. He was a wise old bugger and a kind man. I have many a great stories of my experiences with David and Corina, and I will forever cherish these fond memories.

I wish Corina and the family all the best.

David, thank you for more than 50 years of friendship, going back to our University days in the 60's.
Our friendship has been enduring over all that time. Thank you so much. I loved being part of your wedding celebrations in London, and I've valued all the times we have enjoyed your company and Corina's, back in Auckland in recent years.
My thoughts are with you, Corina, Nicholas and Alice, Alex, Rosina, Richard and Eduard.
I will always miss you. Rest in peace.

The WBHS Old Boys' Association would like to express their deep sadness at the passing of David on February 12th. He was a huge supporter of both the WBHS and also the Assn. Our sympathies are with Corina and the rest of her family, and also with his good friend, old Boy Erc Angelo. RIP David.

I find this a very difficult time - for while David was so extraordinarily supportive of the school during my tenure as Headmaster, his support went far deeper than that.

His active positive interest was simply outstanding and made so much difference it is difficult to convey. It is hard to find the right words of thanks for his sustained financial support and interest. 'Thank you' simply doesn't do it.

My gratitude goes much much deeper than that.

His support and friendship over the years has been wonderfully special - and his generosity to us as a family is something we will never ever forget - putting us up in a beautiful St Moritz hotel and having his staff treat us like royalty.

His unwavering support of what I was trying to achieve with the reformation of the Old Boys' Association has been wonderful and his substantial input (in so many ways) is appreciated beyond words.

We are certainly thinking Corina and the wider Silich family at this terribly sad time.
