What an awesome send off today for a lovely man. I would have loved to have spoken but there were so many contributors that time was short.
So I will add my thoughts here. I first met Merv when his daughter Wendy came to work at North Haven Hospice - about 15 years ago (maybe more). Through Wendy, Merv joined the 'Special Task Team' of older volunteers who came in and folded the mail out newsletters three times a year. Merv was always fun and cheeky - he entertained the other 12 or so members of the team with his jokes and banter. I recall one of his stories being about how he'd be celebrating his own funeral with his mates before he died as he didn't want to be paying for everyone else to have a good time and drink his 'booze' when he wasn't a part of it!
Merv always picked up my mum (Lorreen)and brought her to the Hospice for work. Mum used to say he treated her like a queen and she loved riding in his car.
So, as the ex Finance & Admin Manager of North Haven Hospice I salute you Merv Read and thank you for your contribution over those years.
Heaven will be the richer for your arrival.
