David PENNY Obituary

PENNY, David. Emeritus Distinguished Professor, CNZM, FRSNZ, Marsden Medal (2000), Rutherford Medal (2004), Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Science (USA, 2018). Passed away in the early hours of the 20th of May. Scientist, feminist, battler of university bureaucracy, coffee lover, single-malt connoisseur, mentor, friend, colleague. Son of Alf and Ruth (nee Reeve), Husband to Pauline, Brother to Marion, and John, Brother-in- Law to Don, John and Margie, Dad to John and Kim, Grandhi to Zanoor, Ari, Zoe and Freya, Dad-in-law to Maria and Wahab, Uncle to Megan, Curt, Geoffrey, Nic, Jake, Sara, and Blair, and Grand-Uncle to Rylan, Liam, Maire, Tuki and Ever. David had ill health in his last few years. The family thank the professional, kind staff of Kauri Health, Lavendar Blue, Woodlands Resthome, Summerset Summerhill, the PN hospital, ambulance service, and Francis. David was driven by curiosity, and motivated others to work harder, faster, and to find out more. We hope all your questions are now answered. Rest in Peace Papa. A private cremation has been held. A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Saturday the 27th of July at the Refectory, Refectory Road, Massey University Palmerston North. lovely Teacher, nice Gentleman. Taught me much in the short time he had to put up with me.
