I attended Billy's training classes 4 decades ago and remember him as a great coach. I didn't carry on with cricket but 30 years on, I spent a month or so at his home doing renovation work and installing new windows (even went for a ride in the VW with him-everyone knew that VW was his). That month I spent with Billy and Gertrud chatting and eating her amazing home-baking was probably the best I had in a 30 year career and they were some of my favorite customers in that time. A true gentleman and mentor who leaves an amazing legacy behind him. My sincerest condolences to Gertrud and his family, and thanks to Billy for that month.

I was sorry to hear this news, which was posted on the Dunstonian site just recently at https://dunstonians.org.uk/news/in-memoriam/134/134-Khalid-Billy-Ibadulla and it brought back happy memories of being taught by Mr Ibadulla in those days. Very much in my mind was his happy disposition when teaching me the art of keeping wicket at which he kindly said he thought I could be very good, although I would have to put up "with a few broken fingers in your career". I decided slow medium pace bowling would be my future, aged 11 :-) A lovely man from my memories, and thoughts go to his family and friends.

I opened the batting with Billy in my first ever game for Otago against ND in, I think,1964 so I have very fond memories of him.
He did a wonderful job for Otago cricket then and subsequently and a great mentor for Glenn at the start of his path to greatness and his impending departure to Worcester.
Whenever I hear the tune "Monday,Monday" by the Momma's and the Poppa's I always associate it with Billy for whatever the reason he was often humming it during my short association with him.
My sincere condolences to all the Ibadulla family in their sad loss
