MURU (Murupaenga), Selwyn Frederick (Herewini, Freddy). (Ngati Kuri, Te Aupouri, Ngati Muri Kahara, Ngati Rehia, Te Whakatohea). Sunrise 6 September 1937 - Sunset 24 January 2024. Passed away peacefully at Selwyn Village, Point Chevalier, Auckland. Dearly loved husband of Margaret (Peggy, Peg). Loved father of Paul Vincent, Anthony, Rewiri and Tama Muru. Loved stepfather of Vinnie, Mark and Raewyn Teirney, Moana, David, Edward and Michael Nepia. Loved Koro of all his mokopuna. Loved uncle of all his nephews and nieces. Due to the complicated nature of his family this notice is somewhat overdue, our apologies. Selwyn's tangi was held at Mahurehure marae, Point Chevalier, Auckland, and Oturu marae, Kaitaia, where he was laid to rest according to his wishes, on 28 January 2024. Kia ora, just wanted to send you heartfelt sympathy at the lost of your wonderful Selwyn. I first met him as a small child in the mid 60's when he was living in Crieff Street Wellington. He was extremely kind to a shy child who held him in great awe. Teaching me to make whistles out of reeds and encouraging me be confident in myself. I still have a painting he gave to my papa which has since been given to me. Aroha to all your whanau.
