Akiko has been our lovely friendly neighbour for the past 10 years. She has often spoilt us with chocolate at Christmas time. I'm sadden that she so be hanging over our fence for a chat anymore.
I've always admired how independent and active she was. There were always people coming and going, and always seemed busy.
My heart sank the other day when I realised why there had much more activity next door over the past week.
I'm sorry you've lost your lovely mum and grandmother.

Akiko was one of my first teachers of Japanese at the old Wellington Polytechnic School of Languages, and was a stalwart of the Japan Society through the years. I will always remember her kindness and her tireless efforts in promoting friendship between New Zealand in Japan. Rest in peace Akiko.

Akiko was truly an inspirational lady. She joined my yoga class about three years ago and even from day one she was able to keep up with all of the postures and really enjoyed the relaxation. Akiko was a real joy to be around and a great example of how to age gracefully. She will be dearly missed.
