Andrew LAING Obituary

LAING, Andrew Kenneth:
Andrew passed peacefully with his family by his side after a brave battle with cancer, on 12 April 2022, aged 68. Dearly loved husband of Janice, father of Katie (and Andrew), Emma (and Liam) and Hamish, and brother of Elizabeth, Steuart, Annabelle and the late James. Sincere thanks to the Oncology team at Wellington Hospital, the Mary Potter Hospice and the district nursing team who supported us to the end. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mary Potter Hospice, the Cancer Society, or Zealandia would be appreciated. A service to commemorate Andrew's life will take place in Old St Paul's, at 2.00pm, on Thursday 21 April. Due to vulnerable family members, we kindly ask that masks be worn and a RAT taken on the day of the service. For those not able to attend, the service will be live streamed - contact Lychgate Funerals for the link.
From the oceans to the forests, may your legacy
live on and our love forever
be with you in the
Wellington winds.

We are very sad to hear of Andrew´s passing. From the first time we met in the mid 1960s he impressed as a very intelligent and thoroughly nice man, with a very ready laugh. I know he will be missed by many, and we send our sympathies to Janice and all of the family.

Our deepest sympathy to Janice ,Katie ( and Andrew) Emma ( and Liam) and Hamish. Elizabeth Steuart , and Annabelle and to Uncle Kens descendants and the descendants of the Laings who arrived on the Three Bells. For today the bell tolls for the husband, the father, the brother , our kinsman... and whether we knew him well or in part the sorrow is shared. Much love

Janice, although it has been a long time since we have been in touch I always think of you and Andrew very fondly.
I well recall first meeting Andrew so long ago when you and I were flatmates in Christchurch, his warmth, his smile and his friendly manner were evident immediately. I came to see that those attributes were accompanied by a great brain and high energy. My other lasting memory from those days, and other times we have been in contact, is how devoted to you he seemed.
I can only imagine the adjustment that lies ahead and will be thinking of you. Helena

Andrew was a great colleague, who I worked with closely for over 10 years. He was a compassionate, thoughtful, positive person who always saw the best in people and went out of his way to provide support for staff and colleagues. He brought all these attributes and more to his role as Regional Manager at NIWA Wellington providing very effective and positive leadership to all of those on site. I am very sorry and sad that his and Janice´s plans for retirement have been cut short. His death is a great lose for his family and the wider community.

Faye and I are deeply sorry to hear of Andrew´s passing. We remember Andrew as a delightful man who was wonderful company. Sadly he has gone far too soon. Janice we are thinking of you and the entire family at this incredibly sad and difficult time. Take care. With sincere condolences. Faye and Quentin Doig
