I became a fan of Chris as a boy aged 14 in 1967.I was an avid follower of his career, and was delighted to see him race at Silverstone in '73, and at Brands Hatch in '76 driving superbly in the Ensign.
I have over the years collected many cuttings and photos and books about him.
I was delighted to be able to be in touch with Chris by email, over the last year, when we had hoped to meet when my wife and I visited NZ last October. Sadly it was not to be.
I was so sorry to hear of his passing.
I send my warmest wishes and deepest sympathy to the family at this time.
Chris will remain in my thoughts, always.

Chris,I was probably the earliest fan of your endeavours! As a small boy my uncle and aunty lived and worked on your dad,s farm.I often stayed at the farm from a young age (you were 8 years older than me)so participated in some of your early escapades-wheelies at the beach in the volkswagon-that poor machine really got a hiding. Was totally in awe of that Tiger Moth in the paddock!Have followed your progress ever since-met you again with Murray during during the Targa, what a pivilege.Have even flown the Cessna 337 that you owned. What a fantastic life-will not be forgotten

My parents brought me home from hospital to a little town called Bulls. People used to make fun of the town (!) but growing up, I recall more about the exciting racing driver called Chris Amon, rather than knowing anything about Ferrari.

Chris Amon was always someone who embodied great things about being a New Zealander; someone competing in a gruelling sport; and simply a sportsman and a human being to be admired.

I had a chance to finally meet him in person a few years back at a Ferrari Owners' Club AGM and to my surprise, I was star-struck so I pushed my husband up instead, who chatted with him and had his photo taken.

Chris had just recounted some wonderful stories about his time in racing and with Ferrari. It was a rare insight, shared with humour and humility.

Chris everything I always thought he would be. Such a fantastic man, I can only think what a loss it will be to all those who did know him well.

To Chris, I am the same age and followed your career and realised how fortunate you were to be so quick and respected. I bought Maison Blanche in 1989 from where I ran my son in Formula Ford, the corner at Le Mans where you had the big fiery shunt
striking Woolfs crashed Porsche 917. In 1995 we hosted the KIWI COMEBACK of
Bill Farmer at Maison Blanche and during the race you sent a fax to Bill which received on my fax machine to wish the Team all the best and you said " I,ve a funny idea that Bruce and Denny are keeping an eye on things from somewhere" I contacted Bill and gave him the message, pleasing him.
I have still the original fax in your handwriting and will pass it to your family. It was a powerful message and they placed 2nd in their class.I bought Spice Racing Cars that year still own it and have my factory near Berlin.Yourself, and the Bruce and Denny Show are unsurpassed and today you will be reunited with your special friends.
R.I.P. Chris.

To Chris.
After being lucky enough to have worked with you for many years, it was my great fortune to be able to continue our relationship and to get to know you better. You were always so hospitable and so generous with your time. Those days we visited and you gave us lunch (yes I know Tish did the cooking) were very special and fortunately for me, you learnt to make a rather excellent coffee!

Apart from being so very good at evaluating cars, you were always such good company and I learnt a great deal from you. No matter what my original thoughts were about a vehicle, if you didn't agree, you somehow, in the nicest way possible, convinced me that your view might just be the better one.which of course it was.

However what impressed me the most about you was your conduct and the kind, considerate way you treated peopleeveryoneeven someone you had only just met.

I'll miss our time together discussing the latest cars and whatever was going on in the motor racing world. You welcomed my youngest son and I into your family and I will always treasure the times we spent discussing how this or that car could be improved.

RIP Chris. You were an important part of our lives and will always be in our thoughts.

Sincere condolences to your family & friends.
