Sad to hear about your death, Elspeth, after being inspired by your life by reading the interview you did with virginia meyers in 'head and shoulders' published by penguin in 1986. Nga mihi, a life lived so well. x

I salute a good hospice friend and colleague. In my role as Chairman of Hospice New Zealand I was able to recognize her amazing contribution to her community and in particular her huge contribution to hospice development in the Nelson area. I admire her and respect her immensely - Elspeth has left a legacy that is a role model for us all.

Dear Elspeth, many, many thanks for the memories from a friendship of around 5 decades. You will not be forgotten for the professional and practical advice offered in relation to financial side of things in the local government sector but most of all for the fun and mutual friendships enjoyed over all of those years. You were one out of the box and endeared yourself enormously to a large circle of friends and acquaintances in the local government sector.

Profound sadness now enfolds our family after learning of Elspeth's death. There are no words to describe the love and support she gave to us - even though we were on the other side of the world - over many years. Our lives, and many others, will be poorer without Elspeth and we are forever grateful for the time we spent in her company. Rest in peace and know our love goes with you wherever you are.

Elspeth was a tireless worker for her community. I saw that first hand with her commitment to the Hospice and more recently the Nelson Regional Breast & Gynaecological Cancer Trust fashion show which she personally helped to sponsor, resulting in $26,400.00 being raised. An amazing woman!
