Devastated to hear the news of your passing Hilary. You were the best boss and a very dear friend to me and Giselle. We will greatly miss you. Thinking of your husband, Toby and 3 children, and of course your beautiful dog. Rest in peace. Thank you for everything you did for me, I will never forget it.

Hilary and I were friends from our University days at Manchester uni. She shared a student flat with my then girlfriend Anne-Marie.
Always a down to earth dry, humoured pragmatist, she would often be ready with sideways comments that lifted everyone out of a blue funk.
Later, whilst undergoing the trials and tribulations of Sandhurst army officer training, Hilary provided a brief week-end safe haven in London, which again acted as excellent grounding before a return to the army training madness.
Emily and I enjoyed a wonderful sojourn with Hilary, Toby and the gang in Wellington, on our round the world trip in 2011. Such a great host.
She'll be sadly missed, in this crazy ol' world.

To the Fiennes family,
I was sorry to learn of Hilary´s passing last week. I met Hilary when she visited my hair salon several years ago to discuss losing her hair and continued to enjoy her visits as her hair came and went. I just wanted to let you what a joy and a pleasure it has been to get to know her over these years. Seeing her name in my appointment book really made my day each and every time. I will always remember her and her incredible attitude. I am thinking of you all.

As a cousin-in-law I treasure emories of Hilary and family at Wadhurst and Tenterden in the early 80s, then visits to us in Auckland as she and Toby and family settled in NZ, and all too few visits to them in Kelburn; Hilary always instantly made you feel at home. A great not-60th party, and just a few months ago, small and indomitable, undiminished. A fount of cheer and fun, memorably a speed-reader - couldn't recommend her a book, she had already read it. Toby and triplets, you have so much more to treasure, Angela and I are sorry we can't be there today with an inadequate hug.

I first met Hilary twenty years ago, when she arrived as the Bursar at the school where I worked. From the very start, I admired her hugely - her brilliant mind, her fierce love for her family, her tenacity and her wicked, wonderful sense of humour that could light up even the dullest SLT meeting. What began as professional respect quickly grew into friendship even when I left the school and even when she moved to New Zealand.
There are so many moments that make me smile as I think of her: little jokes, wise advice, the twinkle in her eye when she was about to say something mischievous. But beyond all of that, I will always be especially grateful to Hilary, and to Toby, for the warmth and kindness they showed to my daughter Victoria as she travelled around New Zealand, and for the wonderful friendship and hospitality Phil and I received on both the occasions we were lucky enough to visit Wellington.
Even just last year, the four of us spent a perfect day together: discovering Zealandia, sharing a long, leisurely lunch with non-stop catching up, a bottle of Rosé, surrounded by photos of their family, looked on by their beloved cat and dog, and all the while enjoying the breathtaking views of Wellington spread before us from their sitting room picture windows!
Hilary, I struggle with the knowledge that you are no longer in my life, albeit on different continents, but I treasure my memories of you, and always will. Plus, every time I open a bottle of Rosé, I´ll raise a glass to you and Toby, with warmth and gratitude for your friendship.

Hilary was a delight to work with; always friendly, cheerful and supportive even though she was seriously ill. She was a vital part of the ASBA network of Directors of Business and will be greatly missed. My condolences to Toby and all her family xxx

My thoughts are with you all.
Hilary was an amazing lady through and through- inside and out. Always had me in fits of laughter and I never knew what she was going to say next.
She sure was a battler and didn't say no to anyone or anything. But the body cannot endeavor these hurdles that this amazing lady did forever.
RIP lovely Hilary.
Until we meet again.

It is with great sadness we learned of Hilary's passing. I first met Hilary and Toby when they arrived in Wellington. Being in Real Estate at the time I was helping them look for a house. Toby was going to work with Grant at the Reserve Bank.
It was through these connections that we saw Hilary and Toby through the years and although not often became very fond of their friendship.
Hilary's enthusiasm and brightness will be sadly missed. Our sincere condolences are extended to Toby, Emily, Tom and Leandra for their loss of a wonderful partner and mother.
With Love and fond memories,
Lynda and Grant
