To the Hintz family,

My name is Brandon Lester, I am an American and I had the privilege to be Jacks flat mate for a semester during my year at Lincoln. I wanted to share some of my experiences with Jack.

I had come to study abroad in New Zealand for two semesters. I came to the country knowing no one. During my first semester I came with a group of about 20 other Americans. We had a great semester all together, this is when I met Jack as two of his flatmates were american. Before I knew it, my first semester at Lincoln was over and all of the other americans were headed back to the U.S. I was the only one left. I was somewhat nervous about this because the friends I had made during the semester were the americans now leaving. But one day as the semester was ending Jack asked if I wanted to be in his flat for the next semester. Saying yes to this was argumably the most impactful decition I made during my time abroad. After moving into the flat is when I really got to know Jack and how truly incredible of a human he was. Although he did not need to, Jack made it a priority to bring me to events, show me new foods, and help me experience the culture. Whether he was going to the beach, going out to the pub, or just going to watch Rugby at Ben and Molly´s - Jack made sure to let me know I was welcome to join. Jack and I spend quite a bit of time together that semester from lifting together, going to lecture together, or hanging out at the flat together. And I swear the only thing that would make him sit still was an All Blacks game or Top Gun Maverick, he loved that movie. Jack was always more than happy to help me work on my van if there was ever something to fix - or making sure I knew where his tools were incase he wasn´t home to help. He taught me the rules to rugby as well as how to play. Jack and I would go to the gym frequintly and man was he strong. I would show him how to do a new lift and he would move that weight like it was feathers.

Jack and I would always talk about what we would do together when he came to America to see me. It breaks my heart that will never happen. But I am greatful that he was able to make it up to see Benson in Auckland.

All this to say: it is appearant what kind of man Jack was. Jack was a role model, a high achiever, and a really good friend. The way he carried himself and treated others is a strong reflection of his upbringing, and it was clear how much his family mattered to him. Although I only met Jack in the recent years, he is someone I will never forget. I feel honored to have known him, and I will forever be greatful for how he positvily influenced my time in New Zealand, it truly would not have been the same without him.

I was able to watch Jack´s service and it was beautiful. My deepest condolences for your loss.

Dear Joe, Donna and the rest of Jack´s family,
There are no words to say how sorry I am to hear of Jack´s passing, nor to describe just how amazing of a man you raised. If this devastation is the price to pay for knowing and loving Jack then I´d pay it a million times over. I´m so proud to call him an old friend and will never forget his kindness.
All my love,
Summer

To Joe, Doona, Charlie and Max. Words can't express how saddened we are to hear of your loss. Hold on to those beautiful memories of Jack, may they bring you comfort, peace and strength. We remember him on the Gladdy Rugby field, such a kind, caring & humble young man, showing up for and giving back to the U13 boys helping with practice & refereeing.
Thinking of your family and Jack´s friends at this difficult time. xx
