John SLADDEN Obituary

Passed away peacefully on 1 August 2023, aged 89. Dearly loved husband of the late Judy. Loved father of Kate, and Tom and Nic. Grandpa of Charlie, Sam, George, and Lucy. A service to celebrate John's life will be held at Old St Paul's, 34 Mulgrave Street, Pipitea, Wellington, on Saturday 5 August 2023, at 11.00am, thereafter a private cremation.

Greetings to the Sladden family. I worked closely with John at Wellesley College , Days Bay, when they were lucky enough to have him as their Bursar and I shared an office with him , on the balcony upstairs over looking the water. Having retired several years earlier John came out of retirement and was a super safe pair of hands for the school and the Board and including the Foundation Board. I was the Development Director - looking after almuni, fundraising and engagement, and reported to the Foundation. Under John's stewardship the Foundation was able to amass endowment funds sufficient to fund scholarships for deserving boys to attend, when they otherwise couldn't afford to.
He was a true gentleman and I enjoyed his dry and wry sense of humour. He was super proud of his family and loved to support all their projects and endeavours. He will be missed.
