My condolences to the families of Kevin Torbit. I was very sad to read of Kevin's passing and was ready to attend Kevin's funeral when my husband became unwell and I remained at home.
Kevin's grandmother Mary Sloane and my Grandmother Julia McMahon were sisters. My mother, Madge McMahon-Tingay was very fond of both Nancy and Doris Sloane growing up and we visited their houses in Khandallah, with my mother as children. We lived in Johnsonville and Kevin and I were much the same age - I was born Feb 1941 and my maiden name was Doris Tingay. Kevin, I believe, may have attended St Brigid's School in Johnsonville for a little while. I attended that school till I went to St Mary's in Wellington. Please accept my sympathy Kind regards Doris Tingay-Smith.

Kay and I have the warmest memories of Kevin, and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to Christine and her children and grandchildren on their loss. We always found Kevin a warm and interesting person who extended a generous and welcoming arm to us both through the marriage of our daughter Rosie to Sean. We will surely miss him. Kevin had an additional link with Eastbourne and ourselves through his longtime friendship with the late John McFarlane, a resident of Eastbourne and a shared friend, stemming from their common love of the one-time Onslow Rugby Club. For many years the annual encounter between Eastbourne Under 85s and their Onslow counterparts was something to savour and elevated by the rivalry and camaraderie generated by Kevin and John. Most certainly days to remember as were the men involved. Don Griffin
