Mario MORETTO Obituary

Died at home on 3 January 2026. Born in Maser, Italy. Most dearly beloved husband of Anne. Loved and loving father and father-in-law of Gino and Vivianne, and Giovanna. Loved Nonno of Angelo and Lorenzo. Loved brother and brother-in-law of Leo and Anne (Italy) and loved Uncle of Alberto and Elena (Italy). A Requiem Mass for Mario will be held at St Josephs Catholic Church, Weraroa Road, Levin on Wednesday, 7 January, at 11am, followed by burial at Manakau Cemetery. Messages to R.D. 31 Levin 5573.

My name is Rina Davies née Stella - my Aunty Rosina nee Stella & her husband Uncle Peter Moretto brought Mario out from Italy as a young lad to come and live with them. We enjoyed many, very happy times visiting them on their market gardens farm - Gleasons Rd Manakau.

Mario was a great bloke, larger than life, generous, loyal and always loved a laugh
I was lucky enough to meet him whennI was foreman for Karen Zimmerman
Had a very hany horse called Bonjour geez he had some fun with that horse and as karen said he should have won a group 1 race very unlucky

I worked for Mario when I left school in the gardens at Gleesons Rd in Manakau. He taught me how to work hard, a lesson that has guided my life and my kids lives. Sincere condolences to Anne and the family.

It is with great sadness to hear of Mario's passing. He was a legend. A man with a big heart. A passion for growing the best rhubarb in the region. His love for the horses. A great friend for those who knew him. Mario......you may have left this earth; your memories live on. Rest in peace my dear friend. We will meet again.
