Mark JONES Obituary
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on 18th April 2025. Beloved husband of Rose Mary. Darling Dad to Hannah, Rebecca, Huw and Gwilym. Devoted Pop to Kahurangi, Bryn, Emrys, Tommy, Caerwyn and Isabel; Ezra, Little Mark and Vivienne Peaches; Kāri, Remy and Aila; Louis and Otis. Mark was a microbiologist whose fascination with the natural world never waned. He was a proud Welshman who loved his life in NZ, dedicated to his family and friends, a vivacious and funny man. Mark will be at home for visitors between 1 - 4pm on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th. Family are very grateful to the staff of Mary Potter Hospice who cared for Mark and for all of us with grace and dignity both at home and in the in-patient unit. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mary Potter Hospice would be appreciated. Messages to Mark and his family may be left in his tribute book at www.tributes.co.nz, where a livestream link of his service will also be available. A celebration of Mark's life will be held at Ngā Manu Nature Reserve,74 Ngā Manu Reserve Road, Waikanae on Monday 28th April at 2pm, followed by a private cremation.

Mark was a wonderful educator and always was approachable to add background information to any enquiry.
It was an extra pleasure to attend his entertaining and informative grand round sessions.
I was fortunate to enjoy his conversations in the laboratory.

I am sorry I cannot make your funeral in person. It was a pleasure and privilege to know you. Your humor was legendary and your collegiality was always in abundance.
You contributed to the culture and knowledge of laboratory medicine in New Zealand in so many ways.

Fond memories of Mark. Many happy camping holidays around the camp fires at Morrisons Bush. Great get togethers at Christmas time for a sing a long at the Red House. Rosemary and family I pray that Mark will rest in peace. He was such a fun, loving friend to so many and will be greatly missed.

We are so very saddened and shocked to hear of Mark´s passing, he was such a lovely man and we have very fond memories of you all coming to Scorpio´s back in the day, and then to the Welsh Dragon with Hannah singing with Bryn.
