To Heather and Julia and Ray and Trevor, my sympathies are with you at this sad time.
Norma was my closest cousin in many ways, though the Wall family home with its five cousins was a specially welcoming place.
Norma and I were close in age. In our early teens that meant long telephone conversations debating the weekly hitparade broadcasts (radio, no TV at that point. Later, from my LSE accommodation I went to met Norma at Southampton as she came off one of the last regular ships from New Zealand. It was snowing! Another cousin took her in as planned...a refuge for her. Before I came back to NZ in 1979, she introduced me to Chris and to his Mum and Dad and to the family turtle (or was it a tortoise, Norma had worked fast with great results in any event!).
Our long years in France mean that we have met up very seldom. But Elizabeth and I did enjoy seeing her on our New Zealand visit in September 2024, thanks to a gathering of family cousins kindly organised by Eddie and Toni, which my brother Max and his wife Annie were able to join. Many family memories, with a common base in childhood at the family house, a settlers house, on the Petone Beach Esplanade. Norma was in great form that day! Her courage has been so impressive.
When my own mother died, I was ill and unable to travel. Norma came to the rescue
