Donald and Denise Bugden

October 19, 2025

Donald is Mavis' cousin and has many happy memories of Norm, especially those stories Norm told of his fun escapades. He was such a generous man, always with a sense of fun mixed with caring. Every time they came to Gisborne, Norm would thoroughly clean Stan and Thelma's (Mavis' aunt and uncle) car, leaving it sparkling and even blackening the tyres. He and Mavis would always tend the Clark family graves at Gisborne Cemetery, too. On their sailing trip, praying around NZ, we saw more of them, and at family funerals. One particular incident stands out, at Thelma Bugden's funeral - our 5 yr-old grand-daughter couldn't stop crying at the graveside. Norm came up to her and quietly asked her, "Do you like lollies? I do!" She immediately was distracted and stopped crying while Norm quietly talked to her about lollies. It was such a loving gesture - a family story now. Testament to the fact, too, of Norm's sweet-tooth! We have enjoyed his company over the years since moving here, observing how to do "old age" well. Thank you, God, for placing this caring man into our family.
