Aw So sorry to hear that Patrick has passed. Patrick was a friend of mine. I had his gecko 'Lizzard' for 17 years after Pat decided he needed a more interactive pet. Lizzard was nocturnal and used to hide in the daytime. Pat was a man so full of love. A beautiful soul now set free to fly with total abandon. I bet that's feeling amazing Pat Until we meet again my friend... you will never be forgotten.

I met Patrick at Burwood hospital in the mid nineties. We shared a room for a month or two, not long after he had his accident. My condition was no where near as bad as his, but I will forever be grateful for the support he offered and admire the way he conducted himself both in hospital and with what achieved afterwards. Though we never met up again, we did speak occasionally by phone, and I followed his activities with keen interest. I have a son about the same age. Patrick! You were an exceptional young man and an example to many. I will always remember that checky grin. Condolences to the Brontë family. I consider my life richer having met Patrick.

I only knew Patrick professionally, and only had the pleasure of meeting him in person once other times it was phone or email - What I always admired about Patrick was his determination, his ability to articulate supremely well, his self advocacy and the care and interest he had for people. Patrick was a great talker, and funny too. Sending his friends, family and his community love. May you rest easy now, Patrick.

I knew Patrick through our mutual interest and research in veterans´ stories, specifically those pertaining to WW2. We shared resources and had long phone conversations, even meeting on a couple of occasions he came to Auckland. I admired his fervour and passion for his subject, his honesty, courage and integrity. He was a great communicator. His work was immensely valuable and I´m thrilled he was recognised for it. What a loss but what a legacy. My sincere condolences to his family.

I met Patrick in 2006 when he came all the way to the Bay of Plenty to interview my father (now deceased) who served in WW2. There were some laughs around that interwoven with the more serious subject matter. Patrick's work is a valuable record of all those stories. Much appreciated. So sad to hear of his passing. RIP Patrick.

Sincere condolences to Patrick Brontë MNZM´s family at this very sad time. His dedication to preserving the stories of New Zealand´s servicemen and women was extraordinary, and his contribution to military history will endure for generations. May his family find strength in the legacy he leaves behind. Lest we forget.

From this day ,he became a "Brother in Arms" amongst, First Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment 89ers . He will be remembered... ONWARD

Patrick was amazing. I watched him work with one veteran who no other could put at ease. He rose above all others and recorded history that has never been shared. We are all that much richer for knowing you. RIP my friend.

Patrick was an incredible and brave young man. He did much to enable the often unheard voices of military vets to be heard and recorded. A sad loss.
