Peter BUSH Obituary

CNZM QSM 16.10.1930 – 16.12.2023 Peacefully at the Vincentian Home and Hospital, Berhampore, on Saturday 16 December 2023. Cherished by Jane, loving and much loved father and father-in-law of Trinette, Rachel and Jonny. Loved and respected by Jane's family Carl and Sharon and Karina and David. A proud Poppa to Jack and Luke and step-grandad to Estella and Scarlett. Grateful thanks to the staff of the Vincentian Home for their gentle loving care of Peter over the past three months. Loved, revered and admired by many, we will miss him hugely. Kua haere ia tōna moenga roa. (He has gone to his eternal rest) Peter's Requiem Mass will take place at 11.00am, on Friday, December 22, 2023, at St Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Clyde Street, Island Bay. Committal prayers and interment will take place at Awa Tapu Cemetery, Valley Road, Paraparaumu, at 10.30am, on Saturday, December 23, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Vincentian Home and Hospital would be appreciated and may be made online by contacting www.vincentianhome.co.nz for details. Peter, when you joined our family you easily slipped into the role of big brother - it was so comfortable being around you. Although we had few opportunities to meet, those occasions were full of unforgettable memories. We will always remember the wonderful (and entertaining) road trips we made with you and Jane. None of us will ever forget you demonstrating - somewhere in the middle of the South Island - how to make REAL billy tea!

You don't get to meet many "greats" in your lifetime. But Bushy was one of them. A legendary photographer, but also incredibly generous to those of us who were just beginners when we first met him. He did so much for so many of us, and he was a friend to everyone. It was a privilege to have known him.
