I worked with darling Peter at Tairawhiti Hospital.
We had many laughs and good times. He had a very strong work ethic and an honourable attitude to his work. What an extraordinary role model he was. He was humble, hard working, well read, fair and honest and very funny. He took his role of looking after the business finances very seriously and was able to guide others towards making things right when they erred. I loved and admired his delightful yet fearless attitude towards those in power as he kept them on the straight and narrow fiscal path. There were quite a few characters there and Pete moved amongst them with ease, laughter and firmness.
He loved to party, loved chats and adored reading.
And later, in the nadir of my life he was there for me and I loved him for his deep caring kindness and support.
We didn't communicate often but it was always comfortingly satisfying to have those chats and to know I could rely on them to be fun, loving and oh so very interesting.
Susan Louie rang today to tell me he had died, and worse, we had missed his funeral. My house was full of guests and I am only now beginning to process this loss of a delightful, loyal friend.
My love and warm hugs to you in the family who I know he loved dearly. He spoke of you all with such love over the years.
I am left with some delightful stories and memories of a very special man. He will be sorely missed.
