Stephen GEORGE Obituary

Suddenly at home on 26 February 2026; aged 73 years. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated in the Church of St Mary of the Angel's, 17 Boulcott Street, Wellington on Saturday 28 March at 11.00am and thereafter private cremation.

Yesterday

I knew Steve in primary school days through junior cricket. He was a lovely guy. Steve was a very good batsman and captained our Wellington school boy rep team at the national tournament. I have not seen him since those days but often wondered how his life played out. 73 is a pretty good innings my old friend. RIP

The George family in Dunedin, and elsewhere, many of us being his first cousins (his father Joe George was our loved uncle), had never had any news of Stephen since his parents divorced and his mother Norma took him to the North Island when he was a baby, after she and our uncle divorced. We had often wondered about him. So pleased to hear he was loved by many and was a strong parishioner in his church. Thank you. Diana, daughter of his father´s sister Jessie.

It's so sad that we never got to meet him as he was part of a large family.Thank you to to his friends and the Catholic church for attending to his funeral etc.
