Bill always had time for me when I was a new assistant engineer in Substation Design. He had knowledge, time, humour, patience and I could rely on him to share useful advice and understanding. To me, he knew everything about substations and he generously gave me the right knowledge the get the rest.
A person I just enjoyed talking with.

To Liz & family my heartfelt condolences on Bill's passing. I remember as a young teenager meeting the "new " member of our family & the excitement of being asked to be Liz's bridesmaid at your wedding. We had lots of conversations about music.
May your drums still beat Bill as you play on forever in our hearts.

I first met Bill in 1984 at Taupo Municipal Electricity Department while he was carrying out periodic high voltage inspections on behalf of the Ministry of Energy. Bill willing shared both his time and practical knowledge on the subject of electrical safety and the aims of the then 'Electricity Supply Regulations'. I continued to meet up will Bill over the many years at ESAA & EEA conferences and later encouraged me to also join the Electrical Safety Organisation NZ which I remain a member to this day. Bill's passion was electrical safety, and New Zealand is a better place because of his life-long dedication.

As a new minister in charge of the Energy Safety Service in the 2002 to 2008 period I had briefings with and regular contact with Bill. He was a total professional with enormous knowledge of the industry, a great deal of wisdom and always valuable practical advice. Above all he was a thoroughly decent person who did his best to ensure all things were done properly for the best outcomes for New Zealand and its people. My sympathy to Liz and family, he will be greatly missed.

I knew Bill as a fellow member of firstly CREIA and then NZEIA. He was always willing to offer help to anyone who asked for it. I feel his industry knowledge and experience will be missed by all.
