Damiano Rabbeni Obituary
Damiano Rabbeni

AGE: 82 • Raleigh, NC

Damiano Rabbeni, 82, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully into the Lord's embrace Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Damiano was born on April 8, 1931 in Palermo, Sicily and is preceded in death by his father, Pietro; mother, Vincenza; brothers, Giusseppe and Pietro and sisters, Agnes and Salvina.

He is survived by his wife, Angela Rabbeni of Atlanta, GA; son, Peter A. Rabbeni and wife Kim of Cary, NC; daughter, Maria Rabbeni Bravo and husband Leonard of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Anna M. Rabbeni of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Deanna Rabbeni, Alex Rabbeni, Christopher Bravo, Nicholas Bravo and Gabriel Bravo; and many nieces and nephews.

Damiano served as a border patrol police officer with the Italian Carabinieri between 1953 and 1961. In 1961, he married Angela Bertucci in Pompeii, Italy before immigrating to the United States and settling in Manasquan, NJ.

Damiano was a barber and owned and operated the Spring Lake Barber Shop in Spring Lake, NJ until his retirement in 2005. His shop was an iconic fixture of Spring Lake's 3rd Avenue main street with its signature barber pole and he always had a smile for anyone who came through his shop door. Damiano was a proud Italian-American, an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing a good story with anyone who sat in his barber chair. His favorite pastimes were waving hello to those who passed by his store's window, enjoying the sights and sounds of the boardwalks of the Jersey Shore and spending time with his grandchildren. Damiano was a compassionate individual, often bending deeply to help family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched and will be ever in our hearts and minds.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at St. Catharine R.C. Church in Spring Lake, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in his name. Arrangements are being conducted by Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan, NJ and Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Cary, NC.
