Dr. Herbert Spencer "Herb" Parker

AGE: 87 • Laguna Woods, CA

Dr. Herbert Spencer "Herb" Parker, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at age 87 in Mission Viejo, California. He had been a resident of Leisure World in Laguna Woods, CA, since the mid-1970s.

Dr. Parker most enjoyed his 20+ year career as a professor of education and management science at Kean College of New Jersey (now Kean University). Prior to his move into higher education, he held positions as a Senior Program Analyst with the U.S. Office of Economic Activity's Community Action Programs in Washington, D.C. and as a self-employed management consultant; held sales positions with Science Research Associates (then a subsidiary of IBM) in Chicago, IL, and with U.S. Industries' Education Science and Automation Divisions in Silver Spring, MD; and progressed through an early career as a teacher, counselor, coach, and director of student personnel services in PA, CT and NY.

A firm believer in the importance of education, Dr. Parker graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, a Doctorate in Education from Columbia University Teacher's College, and a Masters in Business Administration from Farleigh Dickinson University.

He is survived by his ex-wife and friend, Muriel Cohen of Laguna Woods, CA; his son, Randall H. Parker Sr. and daughter-in-law Diane Parker of Long Branch; his daughter, Roxanne "Sandy" Parker and son-in-law Elliot Feinberg of Naples, FL; and his grandchildren, Randall H. Parker Jr. and Amanda R. Parker Strapp. He was predeceased by his first wife, Edith Rose Parker Kusner and his second wife, Arlene Morris Wiener Parker.

A private service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 21 at the Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Funeral Chapels in Ocean.
