Lynn Winik

Lynn Winik, teacher, actress, director and mentor to numerous theatrical personalities died peacefully at Haven Hospice in JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ, on Jan. 29, 2013.

Lynn started performing at a very early age. She performed at the White House for Presidents including FDR. After college at Northwestern University, she was heard on national radio in such well known shows as The Shadow, Pepper Youngs Family, and Fibber McGee & Molly. She performed in numerous TV commercials as well. She was a proud member of Equity, SAG and AFTRA. Among the students Lynn mentored were television personality Bobby Hegyes from Welcome Back Kotter fame and Jimmy Vallely who wrote and executive produced the Golden Girls. She gave speech therapy to Mohamed Ali and a famous person who played him in the movies.

Lynn taught for over 40 years at Middlesex County College and was the founder of their Theatre Department. Over the years, she directed over 60 plays. Lynn was also the founder and director of the Perth Amboy Drama Workshop. Lynn was married for 45 years to Lloyd Winik who predeceased her in 1990. They traveled the world together being some of the first to visit China and Russia when they were first open for travel. Her travels also included Alaska and Haiti. Aruba was a place she and her family visited over and over again for many years.

She is survived by her son, Alan Winik and his wife Diane of Freehold; daughter, Sue Dunie and her husband Stephen of Plainfield; son, Jeffrey Winik and his wife Judie of Kendal Park; 6 grandchildren: Aaron, Amy, Emily, Robert Evan, Adam, and Leigh; four great-grandchildren: Alexander, Kassie, Charlie,& Claire. She was always held in high regard by her students and made life interesting for all around her. She had a great imagination and was a fantastic story teller. She will be missed by her family.

Visitation will be Friday Noon to 2 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863. Services will be Friday at 2 pm in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Beth Mordecai Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lynn's name may be made to The General Endowment Scholarship Fund payable to the MCC Foundation, P.O.
