Gerard Patrick (Gary) Reddick Obituary
Gerard (Gary) Patrick Reddick

Point Pleasant - Gerard (Gary) Patrick Reddick, 63, of Point Pleasant, formerly of Irvington, NJ, passed away surrounded by his wife and family on Monday, March 4, 2019, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Gary spent his career in the food service and hospitality industry, including Everything Yogurt, Häagen-Dazs, and most recently, the American Hotel in Freehold. Born in Newark, Gary lived in Irvington and Elizabeth before moving to Point Pleasant in 2003. The eldest of eleven children, he graduated from St. Leo's Grammar School in Irvington where he served as an altar boy. He lettered in baseball at Essex Catholic in Newark, and was a member of the fencing team at Kean College in Union, where he double majored in English and Theater. Gary was a solid principled man known for his intellect and wit. His great passion was rescuing greyhounds, and he adored them all, past and present. His other varied passions were comprised of fine cigars, an eclectic mix of music, and food, whether from a greasy spoon or fine bistro. He enjoyed winter-time "Polar Bear Runs" on his Harley Davidson, attending seafood and food-truck festivals, and going off the beaten path to find the holes-in-the-wall "where the locals eat". In addition to lively political discussions with like-minded people, he also enjoyed home improvement projects, in which he happily made use of the many specialty tools he loved to acquire. His greatest joy was traveling, especially cruising, with his love, Tracy. Gary could always search out the best cup of coffee in town. He was a spiritual man who preferred to let his actions convey his fundamental principles and deep faith.

Gary, a loving husband, brother, and uncle, predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Marie, and his brother, John, will be deeply missed by his wife Tracy; brothers, Raymond (Michele), Christopher (Karen), and Matthew (Catalina); his sisters, Sharon Varacchi, Geralyn Guida (Gary), Kathleen Clark (Randall), Theresa Bigotto (Stephen), Aileen Ryan, and Sheelagh Evans (Mark); and 20 nieces and nephews, including Christopher and Laura; Matthew and Joshua; Sean and Maura; Francesca, Charlotte and Nicholas; Ryan; Jacqueline, Victoria and Christopher; Nina; Thomas, Sulliven, and Jackson; and Ella, Zeke and Abby; as well as many extended family members and dear friends.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 7 at Reilly-Bonner Funeral Home in Belmar. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at the Church of the Ascension in Bradley Beach. Committal will follow at Saint Anne Cemetery, Wall Township. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Make Peace with Animals, Inc., P.O.
